Qi: The Quiet Current
Qi is often translated as 'energy', but the original meaning is richer. A short tour of what TCM means by the word.
Qi (氣) is the flow of function — the difference between a body that hums and one that drags. Sleep, breath, digestion, and emotion all shape it, and it shapes them in return.
Signs of smooth Qi
Steady energy through the day, an even mood, regular digestion, and easy breath. Stagnation, by contrast, tends to feel like tightness, sighing, irritability, or a sense of being 'stuck'.
Supporting Qi gently
Most TCM-inspired routines start small: warm food, regular meals, moderate movement, and time outdoors. Nothing exotic — just consistent rhythms.
