Tongue and Pulse: Reading the Body's Notes
Two of the oldest diagnostic tools in TCM. What practitioners look for, and what you can notice on your own.
Tongue and pulse are quick, daily check-ins. They reflect hydration, sleep, digestion, and stress more honestly than we often admit.
The tongue
Color, shape, coating, and moisture each carry meaning. A pale tongue may suggest depletion; a red tip is often associated with heat or stress; a thick coating can point to digestive overload.
The pulse
Practitioners feel three positions on each wrist, listening for depth, rate, rhythm, and quality. At home, simply noticing whether your pulse feels rushed or steady is a useful awareness practice.
